It’s National Telecommunicators Week – Here is your dispatch fact for Thursday, April 16:
The Dispatchers at the Wichita Falls Police Department handle numerous calls on a daily basis including: 911 emergency calls, non-emergency calls, and administrative calls.
The Public Safety Training Center is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the city of Wichita Falls and Wichita County.
All 9-1-1 wireless calls also come into the center at the Public Safety Training Center. When 9-1-1 wireless calls are received for other agencies in Wichita County such as Burkburnett, Iowa Park, Electra, MSU and SAFB, the calls are transferred by the dispatcher to the responding agency for assistance.
In 2019, our dispatchers received a total of 277,414 phone calls into the PSAP. Of those, 148,031 resulted in the following calls for service:
Police (WFPD) – 108,919
Fire (WFFD) – 12,993
Sheriff (WCSO) – 26,119
We are so proud of our dispatchers and appreciate them more than they will ever know. Thank you for a job well done!
