It’s National Telecommunicators Week! Here is your WFPD Dispatch Fact for Wednesday, April 15:
The Public Safety Training Center, located at 710 Flood Street, was opened in 2005 and houses the WFPD Dispatch Center. After years of planning, the dispatch center went from 7 consoles to 11 consoles with state of the art technology allowing the extra consoles to be used for training new dispatchers.
The Dispatch Center currently consists of 40 employees that are assigned to answer both emergency and non-emergency calls. In addition to dispatching our officers, our center also dispatches for the Fire Department (WFFD) and Sheriff’s Department (WCSO).
Our dispatchers are on duty 24 hours a day 7 days a week, working 8 hour shifts during normal conditions. In the event of an emergency, they are able to transform their schedules to 12 hour shifts to ensure the safety of the department as well as citizens of Wichita Falls and Wichita County.
Thank you to all of our dispatchers for their dedication and service!
