WFPD Traffic Stop Leads to Narcotic Arrest

On Thursday, January 25th, at approximately 3:00 pm an officer with the Wichita Falls Police Department stopped a subject at 8th and Denver for running a stop sign. The subject was identified as 63 year old Donald Spence.

During the course of the stop Spence gave verbal consent for the officer to search his person.  The officer located in Spence’s front right pant pocket a large plastic bag that contained several smaller bags of a white crystal like substance, a bag with a green leafy substance and what appeared to be a rolled cigarette containing a green leafy substance.

The white crystal like substance rendered a positive field test for methamphetamine.  The green leafy substance as well as the green leafy substance that was rolled into a cigarette rendered a positive field test for marijuana. The way that the methamphetamine was individually packaged is consistent with the sell and distribution of illegal narcotics.  The total weight for the methamphetamine was 11.5 grams and the total weight for the marijuana was .163 ounces.

Spence was placed into custody and was transported to the Wichita County jail where he was charged with manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group one and possession of marijuana.  Due to the fact that the intersection of 8th and Denver is less than 1000 feet from the Denver Alternative Education school this made it a drug free zone.
