WFPD Traffic Stop Leads to Narcotics Arrest

On August 31st, at approximately 1:30 pm, officers with the Wichita Falls Police Department’s K-9 Interdiction Unit and Organized Crime Unit conducted a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Tahoe at the intersection of Avenue K and Buchanan St. The driver was identified as 47 year old Christy Anne Shotts and the front seat passenger was identified as 37 year old Shawn Westly Howerton.

During the course of the stop, officers could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle based on probable cause. During the search, officers located a bag in the backseat in access to both occupants. The bag contained a large amount of methamphetamine (61.55 grams) and 0.028 ounces of marijuana.

Both Shotts and Howerton were arrested and transported to the Wichita County jail where they were charged with manufacturing or delivery of a substance in penalty group one over 4 grams under 200 grams and possession of marijuana under 2 ounces.
