Traffic stop leads to gun charge.

fotorcreatedOn January 22, an officer observed a white Chevrolet Corsica traveling westbound in the 2200 blk of 11th St. a routine check of the license plate showed that the vehicle was being operated on a public roadway with an expired vehicle insurance policy.   The investigating officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at Tyler and Ave C for the insurance violation.  The officer made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and identified the passengers as Timmy Wiggins and Regina Reed.  Wiggins consented to a search of his person at the scene during which the officer located approximately 0.6 grams of Methamphetamine.  A search of the vehicle was then conducted and a .22 caliber pistol was located in the area of where Wiggins was sitting in the vehicle.  Wiggins was placed under arrest for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1.  Reed was also taken into custody  for unrelated warrants.
