On August 22nd at approximately 9:00 am officers with the Wichita Falls Police Department were flagged down by a subject in the 500 block of Filmore stating that he had just been robbed at gunpoint at his residence that is located in the 2400 block of Talunar.
The victim told officers that he was outside working on his truck when a tall black male in his 30’s or 40’s wearing a dark blue pullover hooded sweatshirt, dark blue sweat pants, white shoes and black framed eye glasses approached him asking for money. When the victim told the suspect that he did not have any money the suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and threatened to kill him. The victim fled towards the 500 block of Filmore where he located an officer patrolling the area.
Officers began searching the area for the suspect to include two vacant houses that were in the area. Officers located a male in one of the vacant residences in the 2400 block of Talunar that matched the description of the suspect that the victim gave. Officers were also able to locate a handgun in an attic crawl space nearby where they located the suspect.
The suspect was identified as 41 year old Jimmy Downing. He was read the Miranda warning at which time he admitted to possessing the firearm and to getting into an earlier altercation with the victim.
Downing was arrested and transported to the Wichita County jail where he was charged with aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and criminal trespass.
