Vehicle and Firearm Security

LockTakeHideRecently, the Wichita Falls Police Department has taken multiple Burglary of a Vehicle reports that involved the Theft of a Firearm.  In all cases the vehicles were left unlocked and the firearms unsecured.

The WFPD has always stressed the “Lock, Take, and Hide” approach to vehicles; Lock your car, Take your keys, and Hide your belongings.  As more and more people begin to carry their own firearms in their vehicles this concept is even more imperative.

The WFPD would like to remind you that if you carry or transport a firearm in your vehicle, keep it secured.  If you choose to leave the firearm in your vehicle while you are away practice “Lock, Take, Hide” to help ensure that the firearm does not end up in the wrong hands.

Theft of a firearm is a felony. If you have any information regarding a stolen firearm you can call 720-5000, or if you want to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 322-9888.
