The Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program, D.A.R.E., is doing more than just educating students about saying “no” to drugs. The program is also collecting clothing and other items for kids in third world countries. D.A.R.E. officers say the donation program is a huge success, and many of the blue bins are often overflowing with items. World Wear Project picks up the items, then sells them to organizations that then send them to third world countries.
Here is how it works: You can drop off your gently worn shoes, clothes, belts, hats, purses, backpacks, and stuffed animals at each bin. Just for having the bins in Wichita Falls, World Wear Project donates 50 dollars per month per bin to the local D.A.R.E. program for the bins that were placed around town by the D.A.R.E. Officers. The funds stay local and allow the D.A.R.E. Officers to purchase much needed supplies for the program and fund the Junior Citizen Police Academy.
If you would like to become a DARE supporter by placing a bin on your business property, please call WFPD DARE Officer Danette Sheehan at 940-720-5005.
